UV Safety Report Launch

Last week, as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Beauty, Hair and Wellbeing, I was proud to launch our UV Safety Report, A Preventable Crisis: A Case for a National UV Strategy.

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, yet the vast majority of cases are preventable.

Following a year-long, cross-party inquiry, our report sets out practical recommendations to improve public awareness of UV safety, strengthen regulation and make sun protection more affordable and accessible.

Our recommendations include:

  • A national UV safety campaign

  • Reducing VAT on sunscreen

  • Stronger regulation of sunbeds

  • UV education in schools

  • Better protection for outdoor workers

This report brings together evidence from clinicians, charities, campaigners, industry leaders and individuals with lived experience, all of whom have helped us build a strong case for action.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this inquiry.

I hope ministers, brands and retailers will read the report and work with us to take these sensible recommendations forward, helping to ensure that fewer people are diagnosed with preventable skin cancer.
