We’ve just finished our penultimate week of kids lunch clubs and it’s been another very busy week. You’ll know from my last update that we’ve had lots of visitors this week from the sporting world and today I was delighted to welcome Jeremy Corbyn MP, the Leader of the Labour Party, to join us today.
Jeremy rolled up his sleeves, got stuck in and met some of the brilliant kids we’ve been feeding throughout the summer. It’s been great to have his support today and the kids were really delighted to see him.
Preparations are well underway for next week’s lunch clubs, where we’ll have some more special guests coming to give a helping hand. I won’t spoil the surprise just yet but I’d like to thank everyone who has donated throughout our campaign this summer and particularly those who have given that little bit of something extra so the kids can go back to school with a treat when should return. From local residents, local businesses, to our trade unions, the level of support we’ve had this year has been truly overwhelming and humbling.
This week we’ve fed even more kids than last week – and last week was our busiest week since we started the lunch clubs! None of this would have been possible without everyone’s hard work.
I’d also really like to thank my fantastic staff for all the help they’ve given to the clubs this year. Throughout the year, they always go above and beyond to help people and I couldn’t do my job without them. Indeed, this summer has made me doubly proud to be the MP for Swansea East.
I’ll be back next week with some more updates – it’s going to be a corker!
