I’m mid way through another week of our summer lunch clubs, alongside our growing team of amazing volunteers. I have been simply blown away this year by the sheer number of people and organisations, both large and small, who have gone above and beyond to help us.
This week, Princes Gate became the latest company to get behind our work, and have kindly agreed to donate water bottles to all of the kids we’re feeding. I’m hugely grateful for their support, and am pleased to see large companies like this giving back to our communities. Likewise, we’ve had so many brilliant businesses who operate locally, like the Village Hotel, offer their support and donations to ensure we can keep getting these kids fed.
It’s impossible to quantify how much this support means, but in simple terms, it means we we can stop kids going hungry over the holidays. Of course, we still have most of the summer holidays stretching out ahead of us, so if you’re able to make a donation of any kind to help keep our lunch clubs going throughout this hot weather, we’d really appreciate it.
Tomorrow, I’ll be putting my oven gloves on and cooking for more children who could otherwise have to go without. Thanks to the work our wonderful volunteers are doing, and the generosity of so many people across Swansea and beyond, parents across Swansea East might have that little bit of extra cash in their pocket to give their kids a good summer holiday. This is something many of us might take for granted but for too many people this is sadly just not the case.
I’ve got to dash now as we’ve got to sort out all of the food for tomorrow’s clubs. I’ll be back later in the week with another diary entry so you can hear how things are going. Oh, and if you are able to donate something, here’s the list of items we’re looking for:
Baked beans
Tinned spaghetti
Hot dog sausages
Instant mash
Dried pasta
Pasta sauce
Tinned corned beef
Dried rice
Jars of mild curry sauce
Tinned meatballs
Squash
Any and all donations can be dropped off at my constituency office: 485 Llangyfelach Road, Brynhyfryd, Swansea, SA5 9EA. Please feel free to call my office on 01792 462054 for more information.
Many, many thanks! x
