It has been nearly a year since I stood in the Chamber and shared the tragic loss of my son Martin. I shared this story because I wanted to help other parents who might lose a child in the future, by campaigning for a child funeral fund.
In this time, numerous local authorities have waived their burial fees, two large funeral companies have waived fees for children’s funeral services and the Welsh Government announced that they would cover the cost of child burials in Wales.
I’m not done yet though! The Autumn Budget is due in the coming weeks and I will continue to put pressure on the Chancellor to include a children’s funeral fund.
