Carolyn Harris, MP for Swansea East, is calling on constituents to shop local this Small Business Saturday to support Swansea businesses and help our local economy thrive.
Small Business Saturday takes place on 4 December, a day to celebrate small businesses across the UK and to raise awareness of their importance to the economy and their ability to secure vital local jobs going forward.
15.4 million people turned out to support small businesses on Small Business Saturday last year, with £1.1 billion spent in small businesses across the UK. It’s a fantastic day to highlight the importance of our small businesses but also to highlight the importance of continuing to ‘shop local’ throughout the year.
The Covid pandemic has had a significant effect on businesses. A report from earlier in the year estimated the scale of the impact of the Covid pandemic on Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises to be £126.6 billion with more than 4 in 5 small businesses owners having seen an impact of the pandemic on their mental health.
Carolyn Harris MP said:
“Small businesses have had an incredibly challenging 2 years with the Covid pandemic but they are so important for our recovery, both on a national and on a local level.
“The Welsh Government ensured that they could weather the worst of the storm with the most generous business support schemes in the UK. But with Small Business Saturday now approaching, I’m calling on constituents to think local before buying from one of the large online retailers.
“Small Business Saturday comes at a fantastic time of the year – I encourage all constituents to visit the small businesses in Swansea East and find those perfect little stocking fillers or Christmas gifts.”
