This afternoon I was delighted to speak in a debate on acquired brain injury, secured by my good friend Chris Bryant MP.
The debate was called to urge the Government to support the findings of the APPG on Acquired Brain Injury’s report and to ensure guaranteed full
neuro-rehabilitation as needed.
During my speech I highlighted the case of George, who I have been in contact with as Chair of the APPG on Gambling Related Harm.
The gambling industry needs to offer more, and work alongside Brain Injury specialists to better support individuals who are affected. The Gambling Commission have said they will be strengthening requirements of licensees to better identify their customers and make self-exclusion schemes more effective. But this alone is not enough.
Brain injury survivors are vulnerable, and at the moment, the gambling industry appears to be exploiting this vulnerability.
I will do all that I can to listen to and be a voice for these vulnerable individuals, both as Chair of the APPG on Gambling Related Harm and Vice Chair of the APPG on Acquired Brain Injury.
