Carolyn Harris MP has joined Smart Energy GB, the voice of the smart meter roll-out, to learn more about the benefits smart meters are bringing to the 10,147 households in Swansea East who have one installed.
After finding out about how smart meters can help manage home energy bills more effectively and reduce energy waste, Carolyn Harris MP is encouraging her constituents to contact their energy supplier to get a smart meter at no extra cost.
Commenting on smart meters and the national roll-out, Carolyn Harris MP said:
“I am pleased that households in Swansea East are benefiting from their smart meter and this positive change will be make a difference for thousands more. Smart meters can help you take control of what you spend on gas and electricity and I would encourage everyone to use this opportunity to contact their energy supplier and get their free upgrade.”
With more than 11 million smart meters already installed across Great Britain, Carolyn Harris MP is looking forward to seeing this new technology in more and more homes across Swansea East.
Installed for free by your energy supplier, a smart meter will show how much gas and electricity you are using in near real time, and what it is costing in pounds and pence. Information is displayed on an in-home display, which helps households to reduce energy waste and save money.
People with prepay meters can also benefit by getting a smart meter, making managing your home’s energy as easy as pay-as-you-go on your mobile. You can top up from the comfort of the sofa and there’s no need to return a key or card to the meter afterwards.
Every home in Great Britain will be offered a smart meter at no additional cost. To find out more, contact your energy supplier or visit www.smartenergyGB.org/get-yours
